FAQS

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

This is a common question I am asked, which unfortunately I am unable to provide a definitive answer. For individual therapy, I have some clients who I may only see for 6-10 sessions, while others I may be seeing fortnightly for a few years. In relationship therapy it is common to require regular sessions (2-3 weeks apart) for 20+ sessions.

EAP is generally designed to be short-term with organisations often funding between 4-6 sessions. Supervision is often a monthly arrangement for the duration of the supervision contract (e.g. semester / year / etc.)

FEES

Curiosity Compassion Psychology is a private practice. Unfortunately the current Medicare rebate does not provide sufficient funding to keep a practice running, therefore we are unable to offer bulk billing (i.e. no gap) sessions. The cost for a 50 minute session is $230 (from 1 July 26). The cost for an 80 min session is $335 (from 1 July 26).

Appointments from 5pm are $250 for 50 min and $355 for 80 min sessions (from 1 July 26).

REBATES

Medicare Rebates:

For individual sessions with a valid referral from a GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate (as at 1 July 2025 is $98.95) for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year. To access this rebate you will need to see your GP for an initial referral (under the Better Access Mental Health program) for 6 sessions. After you have attended these sessions, you , and after you have attended these sessions.

Private Health Rebates:

If you have eligible Private Health cover you may be eligible for a rebate. Please contact your private health fund to find out the rebate amount.

Please note: You can only access either the Medicare rebate or Private Health rebate for a session - you cannot receive both for the same appointment.

Unfortunately, Medicare no longer provide a rebate for clients attending relationship / couple counselling.

AVAILABLE DAYS

We are available for telehealth sessions Monday to Thursday, and for in-office sessions Tuesday to Thursday.

CANCELLATION OR NON-ATTENDANCE (NO-SHOW) POLICY

Appointments may be cancelling or rescheduled up to 48 hours before the appointment time. For example a 4pm AEST appointment on Monday can be cancelled or rescheduled prior to 4pm on Saturday. Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 48 hours notice or not attended, will incur a cancellation fee equal to the cost of the appointment ($230 - from 1 July 26) if the appointment is unable to be filled. Unfortunately, Medicare or private health rebates do not apply to cancellation fees.

The reason for this policy is when an appointment is cancelled with short notice or not attended, three people miss out:

  • The client who misses an opportunity to progress their therapy,

  • Another client who is on the waiting list wanting to see the psychologist urgently, and

  • The psychologist who spent their time preparing for the session

WHY DON'T I HAVE TESTIMONIALS ON MY WEBSITE OR SOCIAL MEDIA

As a psychologist registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), I am committed to providing a safe, ethically responsible, and respectful environment for all clients. Part of this commitment involves following strict professional standards, including guidelines that prohibit psychologists from using client testimonials in advertising. This regulation is designed to protect your privacy and ensure that any information shared about psychological services is accurate and free from undue influence. Because therapy is a deeply personal and individual process, testimonials can sometimes be unintentionally misleading by suggesting that the outcomes experienced by one person can be reasonably expected by another. By not publishing testimonials, we are honouring your confidentiality, protecting against unrealistic expectations, and prioritising your wellbeing.

You might be wondering why other practitioners can include testimonials on their website or social media. In most cases, this is likely to mean they are not regulated by AHPRA and may operate under different professional standards.

If you have any questions about these guidelines or my approach to care, please feel free to ask—I am always happy to discuss how I uphold these standards in my practice. For further information, you can visit AHPRA’s official statement about testimonials: https://www.ahpra.gov.au/Resources/Advertising-hub/Resources-for-advertisers/Testimonial-tool.aspx
